Outreach
We work closely with schools to bring the expertise of our academics to a younger audience. Our goal is to inspire a new generation of chemists through interactive experiences, activities and talks. We offer laboratory workshops conducted by young chemistry enthusiasts from the Chemistry Students’ Association with the didactic support of our Faculty staff. Classes are conducted in a professionally prepared laboratory of our Faculty. The aim of the workshop is to develop research skills and creativity among students, as well as to show the “friendly” side of chemistry.
Faculty staff also conduct laboratory classes for secondary schools in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship as part of the project “Exact Sciences Region II – education of the future” as part of the Regional Operational Program of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship 2014-2020.
The Faculty staff and our enthusiastic students regularly prepare and conduct engaging activities open to the general public as well as fascinating shows during the annual Torun Science and Art Festival.
Each year, the Faculty holds a Nationwide Chemical Competition for students of secondary schools named after Prof. Antoni Swinarski. The contest has been organised annually since 1963. This is one of the most prestigious student chemistry competitions in Poland. Its winners often succeed also in the Chemistry Olympiad at national and international levels. Among the laureates of the competition are many current faculty members. The Faculty hosts the National Chemistry Olympiad regional stage every year as well.
